Lancaster’s Latest: Rising Artist Spotlight featuring blair atherholt & chomingo rivas

January 29 - February 27, 2022

There are dozens of distinguished artists that call Lancaster home today and many have been featured in exhibits at our museums over recent years. Through this exhibition, we are able to highlight a few emerging artists, introducing them to our audiences and recognizing their contributions to our growing artistic community. These artists may be "new" in the sense that they are young and starting out on their career, or recently relocated to our area. They may have already earned acclaim in other communities, or have never had a formal exhibition. The commonality is that their work is well-deserving of appreciation and we wish to support their continued creative pursuits.

Blair Atherholt focuses his painting practice on traditional oil still lifes with contemporary and imaginative subject matter. His use of light and shadow evokes a sense of intimacy in his works. Atherholt has been pursuing a career as a fine artist since he graduated from the Schuler School of Fine Arts in 2015.

Chomingo Rivas uses a variety of mediums to create expressive portraits and colorful landscapes. His subjects are often inspired by his home country of El Salvador, and more recently Lancaster. Rivas earned a degree in Visual Arts from National Center for Arts in 2012 and immigrated to Lancaster in early 2020.

This special exhibition is held in memory of artist Michael Tymon (1984-2019), whose work inspired many.

Stephen Althouse, CLAMPS, 2003, archival pigment print, 62” x 90”

Tools & relics: Photography Assemblages by Stephen Althouse

January 15 - February 27, 2022

This special exhibition features photography by Pennsylvania-based artist Stephen Althouse. The large-scale black and white archival pigment prints feature minimalist assemblages of tools, cloth, and found objects arranged and photographed by Althouse. The artwork metaphorically expresses Althouse’s experiences with, observations of, and questions about humankind; often alluding to labor, spirituality, and warfare in a manner totally unique to this artist.
