Museum Photography Policy

Guest Photography

  • Guests may take photos using non-flash photography, unless otherwise posted.

  • Guests will remain behind stanchions, and maintain a safe, non-touching distance from all artwork, cases, platforms, and pedestals at all times.

  • Guests are expected to remain aware of other museum guests and their enjoyment of exhibits. Photography must be conducted without disruption to museum operations and without limitations to the accessibility of works on display. Guests may be asked to leave if disruption occurs.

  • Photographs may not be published, sold, reproduced, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited in any manner.

  • No lights, tripods, scrims, selfie sticks, cords, or other potential tripping hazards are to be brought inside the Museum.

  • Drones are not permitted on Museum grounds.

Professional & Student Photography Sessions

Interior Galleries:

  • Unscheduled photo shoots are not permitted.

  • Interior space may be rented out for $50 for two hours with at least 2 weeks prior authorization from the Museum's rental coordinator (Karen, kbudusky@demuth.org).

  • Interior photography sessions must take place during non-operational hours and are subject to facility and availability.

  • Due to space limitations, the camera crew, including models, may not exceed five people.

  • Usage of lights, tripods, scrims, or other recording equipment is permitted. However, all equipment must be approved by museum staff and remain a minimum of 3 feet away from any artwork or display.

  • Rental of the facility does not extend any rights to copyrights or trademarks of works in the Museum to photographers.

Exterior Grounds:

  • Outdoor photography is permitted as long as it does not interfere with museum guests’ experience or block the right of way on sidewalks and grounds. Guests may be asked to leave if disruption occurs.

  • Please notify museum staff of planned photo shoots at least 2 weeks in advance.

  • Lights, tripods, scrims, and other equipment are not permitted without prior written permission.

  • The Demuth Foundation is not responsible for any injury or loss that may occur while on premises.
