Prior to having earned her Master of Fine Arts at Temple University, Barbara Whipple (1920 - 1989) studied at Swarthmore College (G.A., 1943), Rochester Institute of Technology (B.S., 1956) and Tyler School. Additionally, she taught in various college and university settings, writing publications for other Lancaster artists like William Sharer, Ford Ruthling, and Luigi Rist. She was a member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Club, the Philadelphia Art Alliance, and the Philadelphia Print Club.
